Distilling plants into essential oils is a complex process. Distillation techniques vary greatly, and depend on factors like temperature, pressure and duration, and which part of the plant is being distilled, all of which play a crucial role in the quality of the extracted oil.
At Malagassi, we calibrate our distillation methods with the goal of extracting only oils with the most powerful aromas and reliable benefits. Yield of production is never the priority — purity and quality is our primary goal.

MEET OUR FOUNDER: AZIS DHANANI
Azis Dhanani is a visionary with a profound passion for nature and its healing power. Raised in the aromatic landscapes of Goma, Congo, he grew up surrounded by coffee and cocoa plantations, where his respect for the earth took root. This early bond with nature led him to the world of essential oils.
A defining moment came in Sicily when he discovered the remarkable properties of Helichrysum oil, sparking his journey into Madagascar’s botanical treasures. There, he founded Malagassi, a brand dedicated to sustainability, ethical sourcing, and pure essential oils.
Azis’ vision has been shaped by key partners like Jamal, Hugues, Sams, Kandot, and Jean François. Together, they’ve built nurseries, planted trees, and launched educational programs, ensuring Malagassi’s impact extends beyond business. Each essential oil embodies Azis’ love for nature, celebrating the harmony between the earth, community, and sustainability.
JEREMY DHANANI, CEO
Born into a family of essential oil producers, Jeremy Dhanani grew up surrounded by powerful aromas from every part of the world – each one carrying its own story and tradition. The family business allowed him to travel when he was young to visit distilleries across the planet, discovering wildly different cultures from his own.
After university, where he studied architecture, Jeremy's passion for essential oils brought him back to the family business. Throughout his travels, he has witnessed the positive changes that this industry can bring to partner communities. Jeremy is proud that Malagassi is guided by those same values as we work to sustain and steward our producers, our customers, and the planet itself.
Gabrielle Dubois-Pelerin, CMO
Gabrielle Dubois-Pelerin, Chief Marketing Officer of Malagassi, brings over two decades of expertise in marketing, communications, and brand identity design. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York with a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Gabrielle began her career in the vibrant creative scene of New York City. After four years of honing her skills as a graphic designer, she returned to Europe, where she expanded her expertise with a Marketing degree from ICHEC College in Brussels.
In Brussels, she launched her own successful graphic design studio, merging her artistic vision with strategic marketing. Gabrielle's passion for creating meaningful and impactful brand identities has been a driving force throughout her career, making her a true asset to Malagassi.
Her passion and expertise extends to sharing Malagassi’s story and delivering exceptional essential oils and sensory experiences to its clients. Gabrielle is deeply involved in showcasing the brand's commitment to sourcing and producing only the purest essential oils for brands around the world. As a nature enthusiast and advocate for ethical practices and sustainability, she believes in the power of design to shape not only brands but also a more conscious world. Gabrielle blends creativity, marketing acumen, and a deep respect for the environment in all that she does.
Hugue Rakotoarimana, REGIONAL MANAGER
Hugue Rakotoarimana was born in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. The youngest in a family of six, he attended public schools for his primary and secondary education and earned a Bachelor's degree in teaching from the University of Antananarivo. After his studies, he completed internships in hospitality in Nairobi and Paris, and then worked as a manager in the accommodation department of 3- and 5-star hotels in popular tourist destinations on the island.
At the same time, Hugues held the position of procurement and supply manager in a building construction company. He also worked as the logistics and maintenance manager for a group of companies including hospitality, live lobster export, and the production and export of essential oils from Madagascar. These varied experiences in management and travel allowed him to develop a solid knowledge of the essential oils industry. Armed with this expertise, Hugues created his own essential oils export company. After securing significant sales he became Malagassi's representative in Madagascar, overseeing the production and export of the island's essential oils.
Hideyuki Kobayashi, REGIONAL MANAGER
Hideyuki Kobayashi has been involved in the development of organic haircare productssince 2007. While running a beauty salon in Tokyo (also working in New York since 2014), he became fascinated by the scent of essential oils from organic cosmetics he encountered in New York, and started developing, manufacturing and selling haircare and cosmetic products that are natural and safe to use using essential oils.
In addition, in hopes of spreading the good aroma of essential oils and natural products that even children can use to Japanese consumers, he proposes, develops, manufactures, and sells products such as natural cosmetics through OEM manufacturing for a wide range of industries such as hotels, beauty salons, baby brands, and restaurants using Malagassi essential oils.
